Sacraments

First among the sacraments is the EUCHARIST. At Sunday Mass, the parish community assembles to give God thanks for the blessings we have received (Eucharist means thanksgiving). For an hour each week, we reflect on our lives and ask God’s help to walk in the way of the Gospel of Jesus.
In the first part of the Mass (the Liturgy of the Word) we listen to readings from Scripture. They give us a message for our lives as we follow the cycles of the year from Advent and Christmas to Lent and Easter.
In the second part of the Mass (the Liturgy of the Eucharist) we use simple gifts of bread and wine and words of thanks and praise to join ourselves to Christ and his offering of himself to God. As we eat the consecrated bread and drink from the consecrated cup, we are nourished sacramentally by the body and blood of Christ.

The other Catholic Sacraments are Baptism, Confirmation, Penance, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Ordination. Another important liturgical rite in the life of the parish is the Christian Funeral.
